DeGasperi Noceti wore this gown to her South Hills high school senior prom on January 28, 1944. She bought her dress for $30 at the Joseph Hornes department store in downtown Pittsburgh. Her date, Oresh Tammasino, a fellow senior, picked her up in a taxi as cars were scarce due to war rationing; she mentioned that many other couples took the streetcar. Thirty-six male classmates from Virginia's senior class and the class ahead had enlisted in the war. The prom was held in the Urban Room of the William Penn Hotel. As Prom Chairman, Virginia chose the venue and the band. Her brother played for several local bands, including her prom, with Bill Grant who would go on to become a local television star.
