DescriptionA letter regarding the Republicans of Schuylkill County's picnic on Constitution Day and a badge for the recipient of the letter. The letter is a rectangular paper with a black sketched image of an elephant at the top. Elephant has a blanket draped over its back with text across it, and is holding a banner with it's trunk. Letter informs the recipient that they have been placed on a "committee" to facilitate the Constitution Day picnic. The letter is signed by John E. Beddow. The badge consists of a circular, metal open-back button with short, vertical pinback attached to vertical red, white, and blue-striped ribbon. Face of button has an off-white background with a blue border around outside of button, and blue text through the center. Ribbon has silver-toned text throughout. Back of button features maker's mark printed on backpaper in black ink.Dimensions6.813 x 1.75 in., 0.188 in. (17.3 x 4.4 cm, 0.5 cm)

Letter reads "Pottsville, Pa. / September 6, 1938 / Dear Republican, / It is a pleasure for me to place you on the committee to / assist in helping our Republican Party pay proper homage to / the United States Constitution. / On Saturday, September 17, Constitution Day will be / celebrated throughout the nation. The Republicans of Schuylkill / County will join the nation in the celebration of that day / with a picnic at Lakeside Park. / Your cooperation is needed to help make this one of the / outstanding events in the history of Schuylkill County. / Please contact everyone possible and invite them to this / Big Rally. / Your tickets can be purchased from any member of the / ticket committee at .50 each.
