Historical NotesSign from Wholey's Fish Market during the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings. A tradition in Detroit is to toss octopi onto the ice--its eight legs representing the number of games it used to take to win the Stanley Cup. When the Red Wings came to Pittsburgh for Game 3, Dan Wholey famously forbade all Detroit fans from purchasing octopi from his store, making headlines all over the country. The Red Wings still defeated the Penguins 4 games to 2.
