DescriptionHelmet with white fiberglass(?) dome crown with black band around bottom. Black plastic visor mounted with three gray metal rivets. Triangular black leather side flaps with black webbed canvas chinstrap and dual u-shaped metal buckle. Interior suspension system has black plastic and vinyl framework and oval of white Styrofoam at center; suspension system is mounted with metal rivets. Front center of crown has sticker with Allegheny County seal. DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 11 x 8.875 x 12 in. (27.9 x 22.5 x 30.5 cm)MarksHelmet's rivets have engraved text on exterior "Buco".
Inside proper left side has oval purple sticker with printed text "Buco / PROTECTION THROUGH RESEARCH".
Suspension system frame's proper left side has imprinted text "PAT. NO. / 3137859".
Historical NotesMounted patrol helmet worn as part of an Allegheny County Police uniform. Part of a collection that documents the Allegheny County Police. Formed in 1932, the County Police provide policing for the International and Allegheny airports, county property such as North Park and South Park, as well as assisting local police forces when needed. They have a mounted unit, detective division, as well as homicide and narcotics units.
