Historical NotesThomas J. Foerster was a Democratic politician who held a variety of political positions in Allegheny County. He was seen as one of the last "machine" politicians from the area. In 1977, he was the democratic nominee for Pittsburgh Mayor. However, he lost the general election to incumbent Mayor Richard Caliguiri. Part of a collection belonging to Bernie Burns. The collection documents Firefighters Local No. 1, the firefighting union of which Bernie Burns was the president; his life as a firefighter; and additional items that document growing up in Lawrenceville in the 1960s and 1970s.
