Historical NotesThis linen was given to the donor upon the death of her husband's aunt, Mattie Marie Richards Searight. Searight grew up on a farm near McCleary, PA and lived in Beaver PA before moving to California in 1919. According to Searight in a note accompanying the linen dated 1906, this linen was made by Searight's aunt, Jane Chamber, who planted the flax and hand spun and wove the linen more than 75 years previously, roughly 1800-1831.
