DescriptionNeedlework sampler on linen, edge bound with blue silk ribbon, stitched onto a linen backer or lining; basically a square shape, at lower center is pictured a large two-story building (school?), flanked on each side by a tree on which a bird has perched; there is what appears to be a large bell-tower (chimney?) rising from the middle of the roof of this building; above the school is the legend embroidered in black thread; the central picture is bordered on three sides by a series of blocks with embroidered hearts, diamonds, stars, and flowers.Dimensions9.375 x 10.5 in. Historical NotesTransfer from Carnegie Museum of Natural History; accessioned March 21, 1927, donor was Miss Loretta Hildebrand. Julian Drally was the sister of Elizabeth Drally, who worked sampler 94.51.787 and 94.51.786.
