Label TextThis .44 caliber revolver saw extensive service during the Civil War. To load the six-shot weapon, the soldier half-cocked the hammer allowing the cylinder to rotate freely, which permitted the insertion of paper cartridges into each chamber. The ratcheting rammer beneath the gun barrel seated the soft lead bullet atop the powder charge.
