Historical Notes Civil War period revolver featuring an unusual cocking/firing mechanism; 11,984 of this type of pistol were bought under contract to the Union Army and Navy during the war;Label TextIdentifiable by its heart-shaped trigger guard, the .36 caliber Savage revolving pistol had a reputation for inaccuracy. Nevertheless, the Union military purchased thousands of these ungainly weapons when the more popular Colt and Remington revolvers could not be obtained.
