Historical NotesShirt worn by Wilhelm Schmidt (c. 1850-1915) at his 1873 wedding to Maria Langsdorf (1850-1895.) The couple was married in their native Germany; they would immigrate to McKeesport, Pennsylvania. in 1882, with their two daughters. The Schmidts had ten children, three of whom died in infancy. In McKeesport, Wilhelm worked in the galvanizing department of the Edward Woods Steel Works and later, the National Tube Works; Maria died in a typhoid epidemic in 1895. Wilhelm's grandson, Adolph W. Schmidt (1904-2000), was a prominent local businessman and international diplomat who worked for and married into the Mellon Family.
