Historical NotesFirefighter's helmet shield that belonged to Bernie Burns. The badge number was listed as #1, as opposed to his usual badge number, because he was president when they switched helmet styles circa 1986. He was therefore bestowed with the honor of being given the #1 badge for the new helmet style. Part of a collection belonging to Bernie Burns. The collection documents Firefighters Local No. 1, the firefighting union of which Bernie Burns was the president; his life as a firefighter; and additional items that document growing up in Lawrenceville in the 1960s and 1970s.
