Historical NotesPittsburgh Hornets hockey sweater. Probably worn by Tod Sloan. Sloan played for the Pittsburgh Hornets during the 1946-1947 and 1947-1948 seasons. He also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Black Hawks before retiring in 1962. The Pittsburgh Hornets, a minor-professional team that played at the Duquesne Gardens, began in 1935 as the Pittsburgh Shamrocks, members of the International Hockey League (soon after the American Hockey League). In 1956, the Hornets moved to Rochester, NY, but the franchise would return to Pittsburgh from 1961-1967.Label TextThis wool sweater was probably worn by Tod Sloan when he played for the Hornets from 1946 to 1949. Note the size. Players were smaller in this period and wore less protective equipment on the upper body.
