DescriptionPortable blood pressure kit. Rectangular silver metal box with name and number written on a sticker on one end. On the opposite end is a pressure latch. Inside the box is a pressure meter that reads in mmHg. Device has connecting arm band with rubber tubing and a rubber sac.Dimensions2 x 3.688 x 13.625 in. (5.1 x 9.4 x 34.6 cm)
InscriptionsRectangular silver metal box with "HELEN / 625603" written on a sticker on one end.

Inside the box is a pressure meter that reads in mmHg.

A patch on the arm band reads "SPHYGMOMANOMETER / ARTERY" "LEFT / ARM" "RIGHT / ARM".

Written in marker is "ARMSTRONG / A.H.A".
MarksA label on the inside reads "MERCURY / SPHYGMO- / MANOMETER / OMRON / HEALTHCARE, / INC. / Made in Japan".
Historical NotesPart of a collection that documents the contributions of Catholic orders to healthcare in Western Pennsylvania. The collection was originally on display at Slippery Rock University as an exhibition titled, "Sisters in Healthcare: Sixteen Communities of Religious Sisters in Western PA, 1847-1969." With this collection, the History Center has the largest collection of Pre-Vatican II habits in the United States. Many of the long-standing healthcare facilities in the region were started by the Sisters including Mercy Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and many others.
