Historical NotesPatch commemorating the United Lutheran Society's Camp Laurel Wood. The United Lutheran Society was formed in 1962 when the Slovak Evangelical Slovak Church Union of the Augsburg Confession in America, founded in 1893, and the Evangelical Slovak Women's Union, organized in 1906, merged. This fraternal benefit society is now open to all persons of the Lutheran faith and provides life and health insurance. It is headquartered in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, at Camp Laurel Wood. In 1969, they purchased Camp Wood Echo at their 75th Anniversary Convention meeting in Pittsburgh, Pa. Located in the Laurel Highlands, Laurel Wood is situated near the town of Ligonier and is over 300 acres in size.
