Three panels on body feature different images and blue text including image of crown and gold cross superimposed, image of organizational jewel in blue with gold stars, and organizational headquarters in blue. InscriptionsBody has blue text "TANCRED COMMANDERY / NO. [image of crown and gold cross superimposed] 48 / K.T. / PITTSBURGH. PA. / 1898" and "COURT HOUSE / [image of building] / HEADQUARTERS / 1898".
MarksBrown paint maker's stamp on base: "MADE BY / THE / AMERICAN CHINA CO. / TORONTO, OHIO".
Historical NotesA loving cup from the Tancred Commandery No. 48, a Pittsburgh Knights Templar branch to which John Britton Remley (1844-1914), a Pittsburgh businessman and Civil War veteran, belonged. Part of a collection that documents Mr. Remley's business, social, and fraternal activities. Married twice with several children, John Britton Remley was at one time involved in the shoe industry and was also a grocer. In addition to his businesses, he was a member of the Young Men's Republican Club of Pittsburgh.
