DescriptionCommemorative horseradish jar with lid, spoon, and original packaging. Colorless glass horseradish jar. Pressed glass. Circular bowl with scalloped top rim, raised text and anchor motif below shoulder, and facets around base of body. Footed base has raised text at center. Four seams. Inserts into box insert. Colorless glass horseradish jar lid. Pressed glass. Circular, domed body with sloped, faceted shoulder and flat top with horse head. Below shoulder facets is raised company name. Bottom rim has arched cut out for spoon. Two partial seams. Fits atop jar. Inserts into box insert. White porcelain spoon. Glossy white glaze. Small spoon with circular, shallow bowl and gently curved handle. Underside has flat spot under base of bowl. Underside of handle end has blue oval sticker with white border and text. Fits inside jar through arched opening in side of lid. Inserts into box insert. Box bottom. Original packaging box bottom. Rectangular paperboard box has green textured paper exterior and white interior. Interior has brown foxing. Fits together with box lid. Box lid. Original packaging box lid. Short lid. Rectangular paperboard box lid has green textured paper exterior and white interior. Interior has brown foxing. Front/top face has circular gold decoration at center comprised of two concentric circles containing text. Fits atop box bottom. Box insert. Rectangular box insert is covered in green felt on the front/top and sides. Front/top has recesses in the shape of the horseradish ja, lid, and spoon. Reverse is black plastic and has raised inverted number on the back of the horseradish jar recess. Inserts inside box bottom. Sheet of foam. Rectangular white open-cell foam sheet. Historical NotesCommemorative horseradish jar. This item reflects the company tradition of Heinz employee Christmas gifts that used historic advertising and bottle labels and design. Toni Graupe continued to receive the gifts after her retirement. Part of a collection of Heinz giveaways and employee gifts belonging to Toni Graupe, who was a long-time employee of the company. Graupe was the daughter of German immigrants, and she grew up on Voskamp Street in Spring Garden before the family moved to 3681 Spring Garden Avenue where she lived the rest of her life with her sister, they had no children. Graupe retired from the Heinz Company in 1990 after working for the company for 47 years. Graupe worked in the insurance department. She was also a lifelong member of St. Aloysius Church in Troy Hill.
