Historical NotesCommemorative medallion from installation mass of Bishop David A. Zubik as the twelfth bishop in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. Born in the town of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, David Allen Zubik was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish, and attended St. Stanislaus Grade School, St. Veronica High School (Ambridge), Pittsburgh's St. Paul Seminary, and Duquesne University before heading to Saint Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland, from which he was ordained a priest in 1975. After serving in various parishes, and earning a Master's in Educational Administration from Duquesne, he became administrative secretary to then-Bishop Anthony Bevilacqua in 1987, continuing in the post when then-Bishop Donald Wuerl arrived the following year. In 1991, Wuerl appointed him Vicar for Clergy and five years later, after a brief period as chancellor, he became Vicar-General and General Secretary. On February 18, 1997, His Holiness Pope John Paul II appointed him as the Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh, and Titular Bishop of Jamestown; he was ordained a Bishop on April 6, 1997. On October 10, 2003, he was appointed to succeed the Most Reverend Robert Banks as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay (Wisconsin). On July 18, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bishop Zubik as the twelfth Bishop of Pittsburgh; he was installed on September 28, 2007.
