DescriptionCollaged artwork with numerous layers. Back most piece is on a poster of some sort. Back is green and yellow abstract pixellated image. On the front, there are splotches of yellow, pink, and red tissue paper, coverd in white, pink, yellow, and orange paint. The image on top of that is on blue cardstock, covered in magazine cut outs and strips of black, red, and white cardstock. The image on top of that is a magazine cut out of flowers. The artist has added blue and green accent paint where shadows would be.Dimensions7.687 x 8.125 in. (19.5 x 20.6 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
