Historical NotesThis banner was used in the Carpatho-Rusyn church, St. John the Baptist Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, in Ambridge, PA when the church first opened in 1922.Label TextWhen Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants arrived in America, maintaining their religion was very important. The establishment of St. John’s Orthodox Parish (originally St. John the Baptist Urho-Rusin Greek Catholic Church) in 1922 enabled this process. This double-sided banner hung in the church from 1922 until 1953 when the church underwent construction. The banner would have been carried around the outside of the church on a pole for certain feast days.
