DescriptionRectangular red velvet banner; bottom ends in three strips; wooden pole at top with brown rounded pointed ends. Red velvet covers pole. Seven metal rings attach banner to pole. Metallic rope hangs down ends of pole on sides of banner; one tassel at each end. Embroidered decorations on banner: gold metallic leaves, bordering, trim (wire?); gold round spheres; coils; nine crosses with red plastic jewels in center. Sewn to banner: multi-colored vinyl painting of saint, possibly Saint George, holding a book; image of dove, possibly symbolizing the Holy Spirit, on chest; Greek words on both sides of image's head; four angels with vinyl heads and decorated wings in corners by saint. Brass rectangular label with rounded corners in center of banner, below vinyl images: engraved with commemorative text. Two tassels on bottoms of proper left and right of banner strips. Historical NotesSt. George Serbian Orthodox Church was built in 1947. This banner was used at the opening of the church services, and carried around the church. It then sat in front of the altar and was carried around on special occasions, such as a visitation by the Bishop. St. George Serbian Orthodox Church is located on Tenth Street in Midland, Pennsylvania.
