BiographyMichael Strieby was a silversmith, clockmaker, and farmer. Strieby's father, Hans Michael Strieby, came from Germany in 1743 at the age of 17. He was a clockmaker in the Philadelphia area. His third son Michael Strieby learned the trade and in 1798 Strieby and his wife moved to Wood Street in Pittsburgh from their farm in Bucks County. From there they moved to Darlington, PA around 1802 where Strieby again set up shop. Less than ten of his clocks are known to exist today.
