Klein's Restaurant

1935 - 1992
BiographyKlein’s Restaurant was a fine dining establishment in downtown Pittsburgh. Joseph and Hannah Klein opened Klein’s Kosher Café in the Fifth Avenue business district of Pittsburgh in 1900, serving dishes from their native Hungary. The restaurant eventually moved downtown and added non-kosher seafood items to its menu. Klein’s Restaurant occupied elegant quarters at 330 Fourth Avenue from 1935 until 1992, when the Klein family closed its business and sold the building. Klein’s Restaurant was a mainstay of the Pittsburgh downtown dining scene for decades and a regular stop for celebrities passing through the city. Among the most beloved item on its menu was its garlic puffs.
