DescriptionBronze rectangular building sign. Front has ornamental border with inset interior rectangle painted brown featuring raised store name across center. Back is deeply inset and rough with one threaded receiving hole for a screw in each corner. Back has handwritten specification text and stamped maker's mark in black ink. Two rectangular metal adhesions on back, one is partially detaching along the edge.Dimensions17.375 x 23.375 x 1.75 in. (44.1 x 59.4 x 4.4 cm)InscriptionsFront has text across center "KAUFMANN'S".
MarksBack has handwritten text "3293 / D / 820 / 1/22" and stamped in black ink "Tooled By: / Mike Young".
Historical NotesOutdoor sign from the Kaumann's downtown Pittsburgh store. Part of a collection of artifacts that document the downtown location of Kaufmann’s (became Macy’s) department store. This large collection of items was field gathered from the downtown location of Macy’s (formerly Kaufmann’s) after the store’s final closing was announced in the fall of 2015.
