Historical NotesMansmann's Department Store sign, which hung outside the store. Mansmann's Department Store was located in East Liberty. When Albert Mansmann and his partner Adolph Goedel opened the business in 1888, it was a small dry goods store. Within two years, Mansmann had increased store stock and employed eight assistants. The store continued to attract customers and became a popular retail establishment in Pittsburgh's East End. By 1905, it became a full-fledged department store with separate sections for men's and women's apparel, housewares, toys, and other consumer goods. Mansmann's's remained in business until 1979.
