Historical NotesSign from Charles W. Walmer Hardware Company in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. The Charles W. Walmer Hardware Co. was located at 716 Penn Avenue. Walmer founded the business in 1910. As one of the older businesses in the borough, the store was considered a Wilkinsburg landmark. John A. Walmer, nephew of Charles, took over the store’s management until his suicide in 1957. The store was later operated as the Wilkinsburg Hardware Store by William “Bill” Adams, and his son, William Dale Adams. Bill’s wife, Winnie, donated the sign shortly before the store closed in 1993.
