Historical NotesPart of a collection related to Michael Flournoy's service in the Vietnam War. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Michael Flournoy grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was drafted into the Army in 1961, after working for the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) and attending Alabama A&M College. A member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he served in the Dominican Republic from March 1965, and then Vietnam beginning October of 1965. Flournoy was attached to the 1st Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division, a Recon unit located at Phan Rang, Vietnam.
