Historical NotesOliver Iron and Steel Company, Pittsburgh, began in1863 as Lewis, Oliver, and Phillps, a small firm that manufactured nuts and bolts. By 1880, the company--by that time called Oliver Brothers and Phillips--was the largest manufacturers of bar iron and iron specialties in the United States. In 1888, the company was incorporated under the official name Oliver Iron and Steel Company.
