Historical NotesJersey worn by Levance Fields, Senior guard for the Pitt Panthers basketball team. After Pitt, Fields signed a multiyear contract with Sparta St. Petersburg. Fields was Pitt's third-leading scorer in 2008-2009, averaging 10.7 points while playing 32.7 minutes per game. He led the Panthers with 7.5 assists per game. During his four-year college career, Fields played in 100 of 131 games, starting all 36 last season, when Pitt posted a 31-5 record. He finished with 1,247 career points. Jersey worn by Sam Young, Senior forward for the Pitt Panthers basketball team. During the summer of 2009, he was chosen 36th overall in the NBA draft to play for the Memphis Grizzlies. Part of a collection that documents the University of Pittsburgh's men's and women's basketball teams during the 2008-2009 season, a banner year for basketball at the school. The men's team was led by Naismith National Coach of the Year awardee Jamie Dixon, the men’s team finished the season with a 31-5 overall and 15-3 Big East Conference record. The Panthers won a school record three NCAA Tournament games, advanced to the NCAA Regional Final/Elite Eight for the first time since 1974, earned the school's first-ever Number 1 seed and were ranked Number 1 in the national polls for the first time in school history. Pitt also set or tied school records for overall wins (31), Big East regular season wins (15), advanced to its fifth NCAA Sweet Sixteen in each of the last eight years and completed its home schedule at the Petersen Events Center with an undefeated 19-0 record. DeJuan Blair became Pitt's first consensus First Team All-America selection since 1957-58 and Sam Young and Levance Fields also earned various All-America honors.
