InscriptionsWorking end with finely incised text: "United States".

Old HSWP type written inventory label attached: "47".
Historical NotesFound in collection. Donor: Miss Sarah Stoner 11/2-37 "Tool used by David Stoner". Probably part of accession 1675. David Stoner appears in city directory of Pittsburgh beginning in 1850: listed as carpenter located at 57 Carroll Street in Allegheny; listed intermittently until 1875. This stamp was used to name the James Gouges(?). The delicacy of lettering suggests that it was used as a relatively soft metal, i.e. brass, silicon, in a percussion trade such as clock or instrument making.
