DescriptionTrapezoidal-shaped display case. Brass framework and structure with three rectangular glass windows: one large window on front and two smaller windows on sides. The side windows are hinged along the back side and open out; only top right opening slide mechanism is still intact. Top section is molded brass and recesses toward top. Interior of top has five glass light bulbs intact screwed into white ceramic electrical receptacles. Interior of display case on bottom is black stone with pink, gray, and white marbleized lines. Base of display case is faced in etched brass with geometric design on three sides; the design are vertical patterns in an Art Deco style. Interior of display case ceiling is textured gray glass. Bottom of base is recessed and has a rough finish. Gray metal padlock locked to d-ring on top right front corner. Back is flat metal. Electrical cord protrudes from back bottom center with two-pronged black plug at end.Dimensions(a) Height 69.125, Width 28.75, Depth 10.5;(b) Height 1/16, Width 22.5, Depth 7.25.
Historical NotesGlass and etched brass display case from Arcade Level of Kaufmann's Department Store. Part of a collection of artifacts that document the downtown location of Kaufmann’s (became Macy’s) department store. This large collection of items was field gathered from the downtown location of Macy’s (formerly Kaufmann’s) after the store’s final closing was announced in the fall of 2015.
