DescriptionSilver coffee urn; narrow opening flaring out into bulbous base, two angular handles at opposite side, spout with antler(?) on/off lever, four legs with ring attached in center to house heating element. Decorated in a floral motif with engravings on body, leg junctions have applied stag heads and legs are shaped to mimic a stag's leg. Base of body has maker's mark in center "12 / PLATE C... / 2248 / MIDDLETOWN" and "WN" to the right of the "12" and on spout "PAT/APL'L/..." is stamped.
Historical NotesThis silver coffee urn was said to be a gift to Edward B. Cushing by Marguerite Westinghouse for being a pallbearer at the funeral of George Westinghouse. The donor, William Ebling, may have been the great-grandson of Edward Cushing. Originally on loan to the George Westinghouse Museum and when the museum closed the lender donated the coffee urn to the Heinz History Center.
