DescriptionClothes brush with information card and original box including box bottom and box lid.
Clothes brush. Red-brown wooden brush with glossy finish. Ovular head has black animal hair bristles with brass wire filler. Bottom of handle is shaped into a concave shoe horn. Back of head is covered in textured red-brown leather with applied gold logo and text. Brush fits inside box bottom.
Information card. Rectangular paper beige card with textured vertical lines. Front has brown printed vertical lines at left and right framing central informational text. Reverse is undecorated. Received inside box bottom.
Box bottom. Rectangular paperboard box bottom. Exterior is covered in gold paper that wraps around to the top of the interior walls. Interior is gray paperboard.
Box lid. Rectangular paperboard box lid. Exterior is covered in dark brown paper that wraps around to the bottom of the interior walls. Interior is gray paperboard. Historical NotesPart of a collection related to Ormond J. Mitol’s career at Westinghouse. Mitol grew up in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, and attended Scott High School in North Braddock. Ormond J. Mitol started at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh in 1941, on his 18th birthday, as an apprentice toolmaker. He graduated with his Tool Maker diploma from the four-year training course in 1947. From 1944 to 1945, he was a Cadet Trainee in the Air Force. He entered the Westinghouse supervisor training program in 1951 and became a foreman in 1953. After that, he continued to work his way up the management ladder of various divisions, and by 1978 he was the Manager-Overhead Improvement Manufacturing, East Pittsburgh. During his tenure with Westinghouse, he always took advantage of continuing educational opportunities, and in 1977, after attending classes sponsored by Westinghouse at California State College, he graduated with his bachelor's degree in Business Management at the age of 54 in 1977. He was active in the Westinghouse Foremen's Association and held the office of Secretary from 1970 until he retired in 1982. Mitol was chosen to represent Westinghouse at numerous electric turbine manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, Beijing, and Harbin, China in 1981 for the purpose of knowledge sharing. He retired the following year on April 1, 1982. Donor Marsha Miller is Ormond J. Mitol's daughter.
