DescriptionBed. Sixteen (16) pieces including top of headboard, bottom of headboard, posts, spreader, footboard, side rails, and slats.
Large-frame bedstead assembly, with detailing suggesting the Renaissance Revival style. Tall, architectural headboard, supported by carved square columns, originally capped by turned finials (missing); large veneered panels, framed with mouldings and carved decorative elements; rounded top, with central decorative bracketed plaque. Heavy side-rails rise at both ends to a carved scrolled buttress. Low footboard, with design that mimics that of the headboard; round flattened-wafer finials at corner posts.Dimensions95 x 71 x 87 in. (241.3 x 180.3 x 221 cm)Historical NotesPurportedly the bed used by Abraham Lincoln during his stay at the Monongahela House hotel in Pittsburgh, in 1861. This bed was acquired by Allegheny County, displayed at a "museum" in South Park in 1930s, following the demolition of the Monongahela House, and was re-discovered in storage at the park.
