(b) Width 12.688, Length 16.5, Depth 3.
InscriptionsHandwritten numerals/text in graphite on the interior of the left apron "3F"(?).
MarksAccording to Deed of Gift, the glass knob is signed "BAKEWELL'S PATENT", but the text is not visible with knob affixed to drawer. The Bakewell mark is likely on the end of the knob that is inset into the wood.
Historical NotesThese glass knobs, often marked “BAKEWELL” or “BAKEWELL’S PATENT,” have a square end on the base which ensures they fit tightly and do not spin. One of the first products to be pressed here in Pittsburgh, the use of these glass knobs, instead of brass hardware, adds dimension and interest to the furniture. Donor Harley N. Trice purchased the stand from Donna Almon of Indianapolis, Indiana in November of 1995.
