Historical NotesThis flatware set is part of a collection related to Frank Sgro and the restaurant, Sgro's. Sgro’s restaurant was one of the premiere restaurants in the Pittsburgh area from the 1960s to 1980s. The restaurant was owned by Chef Frank Sgro with his brothers Rocco (Rocky) and Nathan. It was located in Robinson Township and operated from 1966-1985. Frank Sgro was a member of the Culinary Association of Pittsburgh along with Ferdinand Metz who, at the time, was the experimental chef for Heinz. In 1972, Metz was president of the association while Sgro served as a director. They both participated as team members and individuals during the 1972 and 1976 Cooking Olympics (held quadrennially in Frankfurt, Germany), winning both individual and team medals.
