Historical NotesFlatware made by Beaver Falls Cutlery Company.Label TextLittle evidence remains of the small community of Chinese workers who lived and worked in Beaver Falls from June 1872 until early 1877. About 200 Cantonese workers, mostly men, were recruited in California to work in the cutlery factory when white workers went on strike. Members of the group continued working at the factory even as strikebreakers returned to the job, but by the close of their multi-year contract, all had gone back to California or moved on to larger cities in the East. Their presence however fueld anti-Chinese sentiments especially among laborers in Pittsburgh.
