DescriptionOrange, black, and dark purple academic hood. The lining of the hood is orange with black and orange chevrons in the middle; when worn, the orange is worn on the underside and the chevrons are flipped to the outside to show the school colors, black and orange. The outer shell of the hood is black with a dark purple velvet trim that starts at the neck and continues over the shoulder and down the back; when worn, the velvet lining along the back is flipped under to show the orange and black. Black tag with yellow retailer text sewn on underside of hood at the neck with a thin loop made of black cord. Historical NotesAcademic hood worn by Adolph Schmidt for his graduation from Princeton University. A financial and foundation executive and native of McKeesport, Pa., Adolph William Schmidt graduated from Princeton University and the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He was Vice President and Governor of T. Mellon and Sons, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, President of The A. W. Mellon Educational and Charitable Trust, and a Trustee and Treasurer of the Old Dominion Foundation. He married Helen “Patsy” Mellon (great-granddaughter of Thomas Mellon) in 1936. In World War II, Schmidt served as an intelligence officer with the Army and OSS in Africa and Europe from 1942 until 1946, and was discharged as Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the Bronze Star and two battle stars.
