DescriptionRectangular brown leather sales sample case. Metal interior framework. Top has overlapping two-flap closure secured with two brass clasps; clasps release via push button and both have keyhole, but keys are not intact; top flap has long rectangular opening for handle which is mounted with two brass fittings; top flap has imprinted gold company name in front of the handle opening. Back has zippered pouch. Underside's short sides and sides' bottom corners are reinforced with extra layer of leather. Underside has eight metal feet. Interior of lid's bottom flap has small pouches. Interior of case is one large compartment with large side pouch.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 12.375 x 18.25 x 8 in. (31.4 x 46.4 x 20.3 cm)
InscriptionsTop flap on top opening has imprinted gold text in front of the handle opening "The Quaker Oats Company".

Interior side pouch has white sticker attached featuring red text "SALE! / KEY 6 / 2 FOR / $3.00 / [barcode]".
MarksInterior has red fabric tag in the front proper left corner with white text "R. F. YOUNG / COMPANY / INDIANAPOLIS, IND. / TOP GRAIN COWHIDE / Backing Lining & Partitions of other materials".

Zipper pull tab has engraved text on each side "CONMAR".
Historical NotesSample case, c. 1960. Part of a collection related to Joseph Vincent Fritsche, Jr.'s career with Quaker Oats. Joseph Vincent Fritsche, Jr., was born in Philadelphia in 1912. He met Louise Catherine Pfister when they were in the same sanitarium after they both contracted TB. They were married in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1939 after nine years of engagement. As a salesman for Quaker he was transferred to their Pittsburgh branch and covered the Western Pennsylvania territory and parts of West Virginia and Ohio. He was transferred to Connecticut and worked as a salesman in the Boston area before retiring from the company. Donor Karen L. Fritsche is Joseph and Louise's daughter.
