Historical NotesInternational Baccalaureate Program medal. The International Baccalaureate Program began at Vincentian Academy on July 30, 1995, when 29 freshman started their three week summer program with the inaugural liturgy at Duquesne University's chapel. Vincentian became the only Catholic high school in the world that embraced international baccalaureate as its core curriculum and was part of a major university. The relationship with Duquesne University continued for fifteen years, until, 2010 but the program continued to drive the curriculum until the school closed in the spring of 2020. Vincentian High School opened in 1932 as an all girl’s Catholic high school. The original class consisted of all Sisters until 1939 and was taught exclusively by Sisters until the 1960s. It remained an all-girls school until 1971. In 1994 the school became Vincentian Academy-Duquesne University until 2010 when they stopped their partnership with Duquesne and became Vincentian Academy until their closing in 2020. The last graduating class was completed virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
