Historical NotesBassinet purchased in 1955 by donor Lisa Carroll's parents Mike and Jean Perry. Mike Perry is Italian American and the child of Italian immigrants. The family, including grandparents and aunts and uncles lived on Penn Street in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. The Perry’s lived on the 2nd floor of Mike’s sister’s house across the street from their parents. This bassinet was used by their four children, Lisa (born 2/4/1956), Renee (born 2/25/1958), Michael (born 5/12/1963), and Michelle (born 2/14/1966). It was also used by three of their grandchildren: Renee’s daughters Nicole Sweeney (born 4/6/1980) and Erin Sweeney (born 4/27/1983) and Lisa’s son Terence Sean Carroll (born 7/27/1987.) It was used to keep a baby close to the family during the day to make sure the baby could be monitored. The bassinet allowed the newest members to be safely included in all family activities. Given the size of the bassinet, once a child was able to roll over, the bassinet would be retired to avoid any chance that a child could cause it to fall over.
