Historical NotesBrownsville High School pennant that belonged to Carolyn Kelsey Coulter and her sister Margaret Lawson Coulter. Both sisters attended the school and graduated in 1912. Carolyn Coulter later attended Penn Hall for music but left school to be married in 1925. She taught piano lessons for many years. The pennants were donated by Carolyn's daughter. Donor Margaret Mima's ancestors are from Brownsville, Pennsylvania, and were very active in the community. Charles Coulter (b. 1895) was raised in Brownsville. As a young man he worked for the Pittsburgh, Brownsville, and Geneva Packet Company and later worked for the hardware store of his father, John Coulter. Charles Coulter was a childhood friend of astronomer John Brashear, with whom he kept a lifelong correspondence. His daughters, Margaret Lawson Coulter and Carolyn Kelsey Coulter, attended Brownsville High School and graduated in 1912. Carolyn Coulter later attended Penn Hall for music but left school to be married in 1925. She taught piano lessons for many years.
