Historical NotesPart of a collection of objects related to the Tush store in Homestead, Pennsylvania. Donor Gregory Antonelli Sheffer was renovating the building and found contents from the store in the drop ceiling. The store was listed in the directory for Homestead as both a confectioner and grocer. At some point in the late 1920s, John and Mary Tush opened the store at their home at 1118 Amity Street in Homestead. John had been a steel worker and coal miner in the Baldwin area before he and Mary moved to Homestead with their children Edward and Agnes. Besides starting the store, John is listed as working in the mill. Mary and their daughter Agnes operated the store. A 1945 listing shows that the widowed Mary still operated the store. Mary passed away in 1960 at age 75. Her obituary states that she ran the store for 37 years.
