DescriptionBlack full-length peasant skirt. Navy blue waistband with variegated brown plastic or wood button and white yarn strip at top of back opening. Accordion pleats below waist. Skirt has cream-colored satin band near top, pink satin band at center, and gold satin band near bottom with heavy black fabric bordering each; black fabric has horizontal pleats between the satin bands. Bottom of skirt has black fabric lining with gray diamond pattern.DimensionsHeight x Width (Width at waist): 34.25 × 10.5 in. Historical NotesPeasant skirt from donor Melissa Marasia's paternal great-grandmother. The donor’s family emigrated from Sant’Onofrio in Calabria, Italy around the turn of the century to the mill town of Breckenridge, Pennsylvania (near New Kensington). It is assumed that the skirt was used for everyday wear and was made in Italy and brought to the United States.
