Historical NotesTwo-piece purple velvet wedding outfit worn by the donor Eleanore Cope's great-grandmother Melissa Blair in her 1885 wedding to Andrew L. Carson. The couple was married on September 28, 1885, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Melissa grew up in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, and the couple stayed in the area where Carson was a carpenter and farmer. They lived in the house, right outside of Perryopolis, that Melissa's father had built with bricks fired on site in 1865.
