Historical NotesThe shawl belonged to Giacinta Ferri Iannotta and was acquired in the United States and became a regular part of Giacinta’s wardrobe after the death of her laborer husband Angelo Iannotta. Giacinta was originally from Posta Fibreno, Italy. She immigrated to the Lower Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1920, with her husband, Angelo Iannotta. Incredibly devout, as many Italian immigrant women were, she was a frequent church goer and dues-paying member of the Franciscan Missionary Union and the Apostleship of Prayer (League with the Sacred Heart) at St. Peter the Apostle, former Catholic parish of the Italian community of the Hill District.
