Historical NotesCamp Fire Girls Blue Bird uniform skirt that belonged to the donor, Kim Cornell. The donor attributes her love of canoeing to her time with the Camp Fire Girls and has since canoed the length of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers with plans to canoe the Mississippi in the near future. The Camp Fire Girls was founded in the early 1900s, as a way for girls to participate in similar activities as the Boy Scouts. The donor joined the Glenshaw troop of the Camp Fire Girls when she was in first grade in 1968, and stayed through high school. The uniform when you joined at the Blue Bird level was a white top and this blue skirt as well as vest. The Blue Bird uniform was worn from age 8 to 11, and then you graduated to the Indian outfit and picked your Indian name. The donor picked Ko-Nina “Little Mother”, because she had two siblings much younger than her. She made a headband with the name on it, and after it no longer fit her head, she put it on her jacket. The Indian outfit was worn until about the age of 15 or 16, and then went back to a blue skirt, white top, and “stewardess cap.”
