Historical NotesNASA Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) pinback button owned by Jay Apt. LDEF, a 12,000 pound experiment to assess the durability of various materials in space, was deployed on Shuttle mission STS-41C in April 1984, and retrieved and returned to Earth on STS-32 in January 1990. During the mission, Jay Apt served as the orbit 1 shift Payload Data officer in the JSC Mission Control Center (MCC) Multi-Purpose Support Room (MPSR). This button was given to Apt by LDEF personnel from NASA’s Langley Research Center that managed the LDEF program.
