DescriptionSilver cross. At very top there is a silver link as if to attach it to a chain or necklace. Text engraved on top arm, left arm, right arm, and bottom arm. Text engraved symbols of the holy spirt and keys of Saint Peter are found on the outside edges of a decorative pattern at center of cross. At the very center of the cross is an engraved image of crossing trident-like symbols, perhaps symbolizing the Holy Trinity on each prong or the discipleship of Jesus. On reverse, more writing is engraved onn top arm, left arm, right arm, and on bottom arm. At the center of the cross on the reverse side is an engraved symbol of the crescent moon as well as an engraved symbol of a crown among a decorative pattern.Dimensions1.375 x 2.25 in. Historical NotesPart of a collection that documents the contributions of Catholic orders to healthcare in Western Pennsylvania. The collection was originally on display at Slippery Rock University as an exhibition titled, "Sisters in Healthcare: Sixteen Communities of Religious Sisters in Western PA, 1847-1969." With this collection, the History Center has the largest collection of Pre-Vatican II habits in the United States. Many of the long-standing healthcare facilities in the region were started by the Sisters including Mercy Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and many others.
