Historical NotesDisaster site badge worn by Father Joseph McCaffrey. The name badge was issued by the US Government to grant access to the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville.Label TextAs one of the official chaplains of the FBI Pittsburgh Division, Father Joseph McCaffrey rushed to Shanksville on the afternoon of September 11 in order to provide spiritual and emotional support to FBI agents and personnel in need. Almost immediately, he was also asked to counsel the families of the victims as they began to arrive in Shanksville. An affable man known in the bureau as “Father Mac,” McCaffrey wore this jacket and identification badge while performing the solemn task of escorting arriving families to the crash site.
