(13.7 x 5.4 x 3.5 cm)Historical NotesThis corno was donated by Albert Vento, Sr., who was a General in Franco's Italian Army. The corno is used to ward off evil spirits and bring luck. Vento used this one at Steeler's games, including the game of Franco Harris's "Immaculate Reception". Franco's Italian Army originally consisted of second and third generation Italian Americans from East Liberty but quickly grew into a national phenomenon of ethnic pride. Franco Harris, a running back for the Steelers and impetus for the fan group’s creation, was of Italian and African American heritage.Label TextMembers of the Italian Army wore or carried these charms to protect them from the malocchio (evil eye). These stylized pieces trace back to Italian folk culture.
